With the last plane leaving during the evacuation of Kabul airport, Afghanistan also closed itself off for/to the German-Afghan protagonist in LANDSFRAU. The withdrawal of the Bundeswehr marks her starting point for an autofictional journey through her memories of an Afghanistan that may never have existed. Together with the audience the protagonist/she dissects overrepresented western perspectives, images, and narratives about Afghanistan, rewriting them as a collage of biographical episodes, stories of nostalgia and fantasy, Afghan music and choreographical elements. The protagonist struggles with her sense of guilt from living a “peaceful” life in diaspora. This solo performance paints a multilayered, richly detailed image of her life in the diaspora — with its challenges and its privileges.
